Google Buzz Love

My Google profile page.

So I just got back from the GTUG event for Google Buzz featuring Googler, DeWitt Clinton. It’s certainly not perfect but I’m sold now that I understand how it best fits into my social hemisphere.

I struck up a conversation with Louis Gray and he gave me a demo of how he uses it along with answering some of my questions. Basically, this is how I understand Google Buzz:

It’s FriendFeed in a place you already go to (gmail) that handles content/media better (allows comments and handles images/video better) and is build on open technology.

Now that I see how much better it handles links, showing images and movies as well being where I already am… I’m going to start using it more. One thing I already instantly like more is the ability to comment on a post… it feels like Flickr (although I’d prefer they allow us to have more control over the default views). Being built on more open technology is appealing to me as well. At TYPESETT, I’ve already been outspoken about Flash not being a open platform and I dislike how closed and proprietary Facebook is. I created a tentative account for TYPESETT there but the usability of that website is so annoying that I want to close the account. I’m mulling that over now. (I do congratulate Facebook for killing myspace.com which is an abomination though…)

Anyway, right now I am in the honey moon stage with Buzz. I hope they can customize it a bit more and perhaps spruce up the design a bit for our profile pages as well.
