The Truth About Object Oriented CSS

January 01, 2010

Nicole Sullivan is a champion of Object Oriented CSS (OOCSS) and I was initially fascinated by the concept but the more I delve into here ideas and its practical applications — the less impressed I become.

I was initially going to write an article about the subject for typesett.com but I became iffy about once I started to see that there are no benefits to OOCSS unless you are developing a enterprise-level website. OOCSS involves setting up a pretty complicated custom class-based system for re-usable styles over localization. She preaches best practice CSS techniques as a component of OOCSS but that’s nothing more than CSS mastery techniques.

So please check out here slides as her ideas are interesting but so far, I see little practical benefits for us developers RIGHT NOW.
