Project Overview

Daqri's Silicon Valley engineering team sought the expertise of an on-site user interface designer to enhance their capabilities. Contracted from Westminster, I joined their team and actively participated in the research, exploration, design, testing, and optimization of their 4D Studio experience builder software, the tool that enables users to craft compelling VR experiences for their innovative helmet.

Results

The project's peak saw it catapulted into the spotlight, with Wired magazine heralding it as the next revolutionary product. My work on the project was instrumental in attracting a $260 million funding round, enabling the company to transition to a full-time staff. While the market was not yet ripe for VR technology, their software continues to be regarded as cutting-edge.

The Stage Interface
Developing virtual reality content demands the same attention to detail and craftsmanship as any other creative endeavor. The early Daqri engineering team, recognizing the transformative potential of this technology, took on the daunting challenge of building the software from scratch. Although a user interface specification provided a conceptual framework for the 4D Studio, the team quickly realized the necessity of collaborating with a specialized user interface designer to bring their vision to life.

Element Panels
The final element panels emerged as the pinnacle of years of iterative progress, meticulously crafted within an agile development environment that facilitated effective collaboration between project managers, engineering teams, and testers. Upon achieving the requisite level of functional quality, the control panel underwent a comprehensive aesthetic overhaul, priming it for market testing with the inaugural client base.
